A conflict occurred at the UEFA European Futsal Championship 2026, which kicked off on January 21 and is being held in Latvia, Lithuania and Slovenia, Komsomolskaya Pravda reports.

After a group stage match on January 22, mutual accusations arose between the Armenian and Ukrainian national teams. The Ukrainian Association of Football filed a complaint with UEFA's oversight and disciplinary bodies against Armenia’s player Denis Nevedrov and the entire Armenian team, accusing them of unsportsmanlike conduct.

According to earlier information in the press, the reason was Nevedrov's offensive remarks towards his opponents. Also, the Ukrainian side's aforesaid complaint cited as an argument the fact that Nevedrov is a Russian citizen.

The Armenian side, however, sent a disclaimer to UEFA. It states that Nevedrov said other words, which, according to him, were repeatedly uttered by Ukrainian players during the match. The disclaimer presents counterarguments also.

Accordingly, the Ukrainian futsal players were accused of provocations, using obscene expressions, and making obscene gestures during the match. The incident that occurred before the start of the match was separately highlighted.

According to the Armenian delegation, the players of the Ukrainian national team refused to shake hands with Armenian football players who play for Russian clubs. This situation led to the fact that the traditional handshake between the teams before the start of the match did not take place, which is rare in tournaments of this level.
