YEREVAN. – Armenian National Assembly (NA) MPs should not vote in place of their absent colleagues, NA Deputy Speaker, and the ruling coalition’s Prosperous Armenia Party representative, Samvel Balasanyan told news reporters on Friday.  

To note, several MPs from the coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) voted, on Thursday, in place of their Party colleagues who were at the NA corridor at the time. 

“We cautioned the MPs several times not to vote in place of others. But, even so, there was quorum at the [Sessions’] Hall,” Balasanyan stated.  

The RPA MPs’ conduct was criticized by their opposition colleagues. This notwithstanding, NA Deputy Speaker added that it is meaningless to strain the situation. “It is inappropriate when others vote in place of an MP, but this is a show, [and] these quarrels are meaningless,” Samvel Balasanyan noted.
