The Iranian national currency, the rial, has hit a record low amid widespread protests in Iran, according to data from currency valuation websites, Reuters reports.

The rial has depreciated significantly over the years due to sanctions pressure and economic problems, which led to mass protests across Iran since late December 2025.

The Iranian rial is officially the world's least valuable currency. As of Tuesday, its free market exchange rate was about 1,468,000 rials against one US dollar, while the official subsidized state exchange rate is about 42,000 rials to one US dollar.
