One cannot ignore the political factor that the European Union (EU) is becoming more and more militarized and pursuing an openly anti-Russian policy, said Russian ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin.
"All this, of course, must be taken into account," Kopyrkin added in an interview with Rossiya-24 television.
Also, the Russian diplomat noted that under the current conditions it is difficult to discuss Armenia's membership in the EU, despite the fact that EU standards are being actively implemented in Armenia.
Kopyrkin reiterated that Armenia's simultaneous membership in the EU and in the Eurasian Economic Union are incompatible. The Russian ambassador to Armenia recalled that the Armenian leadership has already stated that at some phase they will have to make a choice, and expressed hope that this choice "will be made based on the real interests of Armenia and the Armenian people."
