At the request of Armenia, Russia is beginning negotiations on the restoration of two sections of Armenia’s railways that will provide a connection with the railways of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said, RIA Novosti reports.

“In accordance with the request of the Armenian side and based on [Russia’s] friendly and fraternal feelings towards the people of Armenia, the Russian Federation has decided to begin substantive negotiations on the restoration of two sections of Armenia’s railways that will provide a connection with the railways of the Republic of Azerbaijan, near the [Armenian] city of Yeraskh, as well as the railways of the Republic of Turkey, near the [Armenian] village of Akhuryan,” Overchuk told reporters.

He noted that the total length of the sections of the railway to be restored is approximately 1.6 km and 12.4 km. The technical, financial, and other methods of implementing this project will be determined during the negotiations.

"We highly appreciate the trust in Russian experience, knowledge and technologies, which the Armenian side has once again shown by turning to Russia," the Russian deputy premier emphasized.
