Armenia has made a decision only on the type of the new nuclear power plant; it will be modular. But it is not clear with whom they will cooperate and which country's proposal will be accepted. Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, Narek Apitonyan, stated this in response to a request from Azatutyun, the RFE/RL’s Armenian service.

According to the deputy minister, the respective discussions are still ongoing.

The company created within the framework of the project to build a new nuclear power unit in Armenia will submit a proposal on the type and capacity of the new power unit or power units based on the results of studies and analyses. The Armenian executive branch, however, does not say when this proposal will be submitted.

During the visit of US Vice President JD Vance to Armenia last week, Yerevan and Washington signed an agreement on completing negotiations on peaceful nuclear cooperation. Also, Vance announced that American nuclear reactors would reach Armenia. But Moscow's response was not long in coming. High-ranking Russian officials announced that Armenia had no real alternative to the Russian proposal.
