MOSCOW. - Russia and China will continue holding the only true position on Syria in the UN Security Council (SC), Russian expert Eduard Popov told Armenian News-NEWS.am. According to him, those states will not surrender despite strong pressure by the U.S. and the UK within the UN and the moral-political pressure by the EU and the League of Arab States.

“Within the permanent members of the UN, U.S., UK and France are for the militaristic solution in Syria, while Russia and China are for maintaining the sovereignty of national states. We mean shift of institute of national states into a system of international relations and further export of the Arab revolution into other Middle East states,” the expert said adding the ‘export’ may further engage the South Caucasus and Russia.

The expert believes any attempt of forcing a resolution through the UN SC, violating international key norms, will fail.  

“I suppose those attempts will be intensified in connection to the upcoming Russian presidential elections and afterwards. Hence a rude pressure of force is expected as it has already happened with Kosovo and Iraq,” the expert concluded.
