In a phone call with ABC News, US President Donald Trump "expressed optimism" about the American-Israeli attack on Iran, saying it was going "very well."

When asked how long it would last, Trump replied: "Actually, as long as we wanted. But the damage has already been done. Essentially, they have been taken out as much as we wanted."

When asked about the Iranian leadership and whether the US believes it was killed in the airstrikes, Trump responded: "In many ways, yes. But we don't know everything, but a lot is known for certain. It was a very powerful strike."

When asked "about the future leadership of Iran," Trump said: "Yes. We have a very good idea."
