The Iraqi government has declared three days of national mourning over the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"With great grief and sorrow, we express our condolences to the respected Iranian people and the entire Islamic ummah over the martyrdom of the scholar and mujahid, the Supreme Leader, His Excellency Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Husseini al-Khamenei, whom we consider among the foremost of the Prophet's family," said government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He also noted that the killing occurred "as a result of blatant aggression and a reprehensible act that violates all human and moral norms, and clearly contradicts international laws and conventions."
