Churches and temples in the United Arab Emirates have urged worshippers to remain safe and calm. Some religious institutions have canceled Sunday services to prevent large gatherings.

The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi announced it would remain closed on Sunday.

“The safety and well-being of everyone remain our top priority. We sincerely pray for understanding and peace while following the guidance of the relevant authorities,” the temple said in a statement.

Thousands of people typically gather at the temple for weekend prayers.

A Sikh gurdwara in Dubai also announced it would close on Sunday to avoid large crowds.

Several priests noted that churches remain open for those wishing to attend Mass but strongly advised following official guidance and staying at home.

“We are all concerned about the situation in the Middle East. Above all, I urge everyone to remain calm and composed, while carefully following all instructions from civil authorities,” said Paolo Martinelli, Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia.
