Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that the Israeli Air Force is carrying out strikes over Tehran using “standby” munitions — meaning bombs dropped directly over their targets, according to the Times of Israel.

“For the first time during Operation ‘Lion’s Roar,’ Air Force aircraft are operating in holding patterns in the skies over Tehran, delivering powerful strikes against regime and repression targets,” Katz said.

Israeli airstrikes on Tehran over the past day were carried out using long-range weapons launched from a distance, which generally have smaller warheads, the outlet reports.

The ability to deploy reserve bombs became possible after the military said it had secured air superiority and “opened the path to Tehran.”

Katz stated that “continuous powerful strikes” would now be carried out against Tehran.
