A Gulf source familiar with the matter has told Al Jazeera that an emergency meeting of the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is to be held via video conference today.
The GCC is a political and economic alliance of six countries on the Arabian Peninsula: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Israel carried out strikes on Iran on the morning of February 28. US President Donald Trump also announced the start of a US military operation against Iran. Military facilities in western Iran, the residence of the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and a primary school in the city of Minab were hit.
In response, Iran launched missile strikes against Israel and US military bases in the region.
