The European Union's (EU) 27 nations on Sunday called for "maximum restraint" and full respect for international law in the Iran conflict, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said, Reuters reports.

"We call for maximum restraint, protection of civilians and full respect of international law, including the principles of the United Nations Charter, and international humanitarian law," said a statement issued by Kallas on behalf of all EU members. Israel struck Iran on the morning of February 28. US President Donald Trump also announced the start of US military action against Iran.

Military facilities in western Iran, the residence of the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as an elementary school in the city of Minab were hit. The supreme leader of Iran and a number of members of the country's military and political leadership were killed. In response, Iran launched missile strikes on Israel and US military bases in the region.
