US forces have achieved air superiority over Iran, said Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine.
"US force strikes have resulted in local air superiority. This superiority will not only enhance the protection of our forces, but will also allow them to continue operations on Iranian territory," Caine said at a press conference.
"More than 100 aircraft launched from land and sea — fighters, tankers, airborne early warning and electronic warfare aircraft, bombers from the US, and unmanned platforms — operated as a single coordinated wave. This was a daytime strike based on a trigger event, conducted by the Israel Defense Forces and enabled by US intelligence," Caine said.
"First to fire were Tomahawk cruise missiles launched at sea by the US Navy. They approached Iranian naval forces and began strikes on Iran's southern flank. On the ground, forces employed long-range precision weapons — deliberately, carefully, precisely, and lethally. This was a large-scale, overwhelming attack across all domains of warfare, striking more than 1,000 targets in the first 24 hours. The operation has now been underway for approximately 57 hours — this is the initial phase. CENTCOM's focus is on the systematic destruction of Iranian command and communications infrastructure, naval forces, ballistic missile facilities, and intelligence infrastructure — with the goal of degrading their capabilities and disorienting the adversary. Coordinated space and cyber operations effectively disrupted communications and sensor networks across the area of responsibility, leaving the adversary unable to see, coordinate, or respond effectively. The cumulative effect of these rapid, precise, and overwhelming strikes has resulted in the establishment of local air superiority."
"American B-2 bombers, as in Operation Midnight Hammer, flew a 37-hour combat sortie from the continental United States, dropping precision penetrating munitions on Iranian underground facilities on the southern flank and somewhat deeper," Caine added.
