Among our people there were those who believed Trump's promises of help, but in the end we all saw that the only consequence of these promises was human casualties, killings, and destruction. This was stated at a press conference on March 2 by Iran's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Khalil Shirkolami.
"I hope it is now clear to everyone that behind Trump's promises of help there is only violence, destruction, and human losses. And the person living in America who hopes that the Iranian people will perish so that he can return to Iran and become its leader published a post on Twitter yesterday saying that his heart is broken and he regrets the killing of three American soldiers.
One person in the comments wrote: 'And what do you feel about the death of 153 schoolgirls as a result of the attack on the school in Minab?' But he received no answer to his question," Shirkolami stated.
Commenting on protests by Iranian citizens in Armenia against the current Iranian authorities, the ambassador said: "I have said before, and I can repeat now: we have no problem with political rallies, they are naturally organized in our country.
However, in this case, what was called a political rally was in fact an organized action by one group that voiced insults, abuse, and threats against the embassy and its staff. It is impossible to call this a political rally.
At some point they began using the most obscene and offensive words directed at our national and religious principles.
We naturally expressed our concern to the Armenian authorities, stating that this constitutes incitement of religious hatred, which is also a punishable act under Armenian law.
It should be noted that they always represent a minority in terms of numbers. More than 3,000 Iranian citizens live in Armenia, of whom only a few dozen participated in the actions. But we love them too — they are our citizens, and our embassy's consular section has provided many of them with proper services. These are our citizens who have been deceived."
