Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Seyyed Khamenei will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad, Fars reports. According to the Iranian outlet, officials organizing the state funeral ceremony are currently developing a program for a public farewell ceremony in the capital. Details of the event, including the date and full program, will be officially announced after approval.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was born in Mashhad. His father, Ayatollah Seyyed Javad Khamenei, is buried in the Towhidkhaneh hall of the Imam Reza shrine.
The US and Israel have been striking Iranian territory since February 28, causing destruction and casualties. In response, Iran has been launching missile strikes against Israel and US military bases in the region. Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials were also killed in the Israeli-American strikes.
On March 2, Hezbollah joined the war against Israel. Israel announced the launch of an offensive operation against the movement.
