YEREVAN-If the Armenia-Iran railway is constructed the Russian Railways will participate in the project, the director of the Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin said during a briefing in Yerevan.

Commenting on the railway construction which will connect Iran and Armenia, he mentioned that the Russian Railways effectively cooperates with the Iranian colleges.

“It can become an important interstate project and if it is realized the Russian Railways will also participate,” Yakunin stated.

A working group comprising representatives of transport ministries of Russia Armenia and Iran was created back in 2009 to discuss the project.

According to experts, the construction of the railway may last up to 5 years and the project is estimated at about $1.5-2 billion.
