US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff commented on the Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchange in the "500 for 500" format, the second round of which took place on Friday, and announced "further progress" in the "coming weeks."

"This week, Ukraine and Russia conducted another prisoner exchange, returning 1,000 people — pursuant to agreements reached during recent trilateral negotiations in Geneva involving the United States," Witkoff wrote on X.

According to him, the new prisoner exchange became possible thanks to "lengthy and detailed peace negotiations" conducted "at the direction of President Donald Trump."

"Negotiations are ongoing, and further progress is expected in the coming weeks," Witkoff stated.

The time and location of the next round of negotiations are unknown. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this week that the next trilateral meeting could have taken place "between March 5 and 9" in Abu Dhabi, but had to be postponed "for some time" due to the war in the Middle East.
