US President Donald Trump said on March 6 that he intends to send Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Cuba as part of Washington-Havana negotiations.

"They want to make a deal, so I'll send Marco there, and we'll see what happens. That's what we're focused on right now," he told CNN.

The White House chief had earlier noted that possible future US actions regarding Cuba are only "a matter of time," but the United States wants to "finish with Iran" first.

The day before, the US leader said the political regime in Cuba could collapse. Trump also confirmed that the US is maintaining contact with Cuba's communist leadership as instability on the island intensifies following the arrest of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
