Ayatollah Mohammad-Mahdi Mirbageri, a member of Iran's Assembly of Experts, hinted that a decision on the successor to slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is close, Fars reports.

Mirbageri said "enormous efforts have been made to determine leadership" and that a "decisive and unanimous opinion" has been reached.

Another member of the Assembly, Hojatoleslam Jafari, said he hopes "the entire Iranian people will be satisfied as soon as possible."

"The delay in electing the third leader is bitter and undesirable for everyone, and there is no alternative, so we should not have bad thoughts about our representatives at this difficult time," he said.

Under Iran's constitution, the 88-member Assembly of Experts is empowered to select the country's Supreme Leader. Khamenei, who ruled Iran for 37 years, was killed in the US-Israeli strike on Tehran on February 28.
