The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that two IDF soldiers were killed early this morning in a Hezbollah attack in southern Lebanon, Times of Israel reports.

One of the killed was a 38-year-old sergeant; the name of the second soldier has not yet been released.

According to the IDF, the incident occurred near an army post in southern Lebanon, directly opposite the Israeli border community of Manara.

According to a preliminary IDF investigation, the incident began when an APC "Puma" became stuck during operations in the area. The IDF dispatched another Puma APC and two armored D9 bulldozers in an attempt to extract it. A projectile — possibly an anti-tank missile or mortar shell — struck one of the D9 bulldozers, causing a fire that killed the two soldiers. Another officer was lightly wounded in the incident.
