A member of Iran's Assembly of Experts said that the majority opinion is leaning toward the son of slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Seyyed Khamenei, Pars Today reports.

Earlier, the Assembly of Experts hinted that it had reached a consensus on the election of a new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.

Under Iran's constitution, the 88-member Assembly of Experts is empowered to select the country's Supreme Leader. Khamenei, who ruled Iran for 37 years, was killed in the US-Israeli strike on Tehran on February 28.

The IDF also weighed in on the process, warning that it will target any successor to Iran's Supreme Leader.
