Iran's Assembly of Experts will announce the name of the new Supreme Leader shortly, Fars reports.

"The final report on the process of selecting and introducing the third Leader of the Islamic Republic will be announced shortly," said Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Hosseini Bushehri.

"The people can be assured that the Assembly of Experts will soon officially inform the public of the final report on the process of selecting and introducing the third Leader through the Assembly's secretariat. It is important that citizens show revolutionary patience and take into account the current conditions in the country," Ayatollah Bushehri added.

Earlier, Pars Today reported that majority opinion in the Assembly of Experts is leaning toward the son of the slain Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

Under Iran's constitution, the 88-member Assembly of Experts is empowered to select the country's Supreme Leader. Khamenei, who ruled Iran for 37 years, was killed in the US-Israeli strike on Tehran on February 28. The IDF also weighed in, warning that it will target any successor to Iran's Supreme Leader.
