UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher called the current situation "a moment of grave danger for Lebanon and the entire region," as the conflict is disrupting markets, supply chains, and humanitarian operations.

Speaking at an emergency UN Security Council session, he noted that disruptions to maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz are leading to rising prices and humanitarian aid delivery delays of up to six months.

"And when that happens," Fletcher said, "the most vulnerable people in Lebanon and across the region suffer first and most."
