The United States has no reliable information about whether the Strait of Hormuz is mined, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said at a press conference.

He said that Washington has no clear evidence that Iran has mined the Strait of Hormuz.

Hegseth added, however, that no ship had encountered any mines or similar obstacles there.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump expressed a similar position, noting that the American side had no information about whether the Strait of Hormuz was mined.

In early March, Iranian officials considered it possible to close the Strait of Hormuz after the US and Israeli military operations against Iran. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later said that the Strait of Hormuz officially remains open, although many ships avoid it due to the risk of attacks.

Amid the escalating situation, the International Energy Agency has agreed to release about 400 million barrels of oil from its strategic reserves to stabilize the global energy market.
