The US may strike Iranian Kharg Island a few more times "just for fun," US President Donald Trump said in an interview with NBC News.
According to Trump, the US strikes on the island "destroyed" much of it.
He also said he did not touch the island's energy infrastructure "because restoration would take years."
Earlier, in the early hours of March 14, Trump announced that US Central Command had carried out one of the most powerful bombardments in Middle East history, destroying all military targets on the "jewel of the Iranian empire" — Kharg Island.
Iranian media later confirmed the bombardment. According to Press TV, more than 15 explosions were heard, and dense smoke rose as a result of the American airstrikes. Fars reports that US targets on the island included a military facility, a naval base, and a helicopter control tower.
Iranian media later reported that the situation on the island is under control.
