IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told Kommersant in an interview what concerns him most from a nuclear safety perspective amid US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

According to Grossi, the situation can be viewed from many angles, but one thing can be emphasized: nuclear facilities must not come under attack.

"I have said this in Vienna, in New York, everywhere — this is critically important.

As for the specific situation in Iran and your question about which nuclear risks concern me most here, I proceed first and foremost from what consequences certain attacks may lead to. So far, they have been directed primarily at facilities that, strictly from a nuclear safety perspective, carry limited risks. Do not misunderstand me — I am in no way justifying any strikes on facilities that are related to nuclear infrastructure, especially since some of the affected locations contain materials whose possible dispersal could cause problems, and of course, this raises serious concern," the IAEA chief said.

At the same time, according to Grossi, his main concern is, of course, Bushehr.

"This is an operating nuclear power plant, and such facilities must remain inviolable under any circumstances.

Let me emphasize once more: no nuclear facilities should come under attack. But in the case of Iran, since you asked what concerns me most, it is Bushehr. My main concern is that Bushehr not be affected in any way," he said.
