Germany has called on Israel to refrain from carrying out a ground operation in Lebanon.

"We are observing preparations for a large-scale Israeli ground offensive that would significantly worsen the already tense humanitarian situation in the region and lead to a further increase in refugees. We therefore also urge our Israeli friends not to go down this path and are maintaining contacts to convey this message," said government spokesperson Stefan Cornelius.
