If the new Supreme Leader of Iran dies or is unable to continue, it may cause the regime to collapse. Former Trump National Security Adviser John Bolton argued in an exclusive interview with “Factor of Power” talk show of the Armenian News – NEWS.am referring to what is the further plan of the US and Israel after the war is underway about 20 days without reaching any breakthrough.
“Everybody believed when Ali Khamenei finally died, there would be a succession crisis, because he was only the second supreme leader and there had only been one transition from the time of the revolution. Now, we've accelerated the succession crisis and I think the election of Mojtaba Khamenei shows really how difficult position the regime is now in. If he dies or is unable to continue, they're forced into another succession crisis. And this is the kind of dynamic that once it takes hold can cause even an authoritarian regime to collapse very quickly” he said.
Asked whether the new Supreme Leader of Iran is still a target for the US and Israel after claiming there would be no surrender of Iran, Bolton said ‘he is’ and argued the best option would be the formation of a military government made of generals of the regular army after the ruling system is toppled.
“Not the revolutionary guard, but the conventional military who can help restore order over what may be a very tumultuous period and then give the Iranian people the chance to have some kind of consultative process to decide on what their new governmental, new constitutional system would look like. And I think once we saw a government not run by these religious fanatics, that would be a moment to reach out to them” Bolton added.
