Military operations in the Middle East continue, escalating tensions in the region and causing concern among the international community. Military strikes and retaliatory actions by both sides—the US and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other—continue to affect not only the countries of the region, but also the global economic situation.

Armenian NEWS.am presents below a brief overview of the main events that took place in the Middle East on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

  • Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, warned Baku that a country that subjects its territory to US and Israeli strikes becomes a legitimate target for Iran. Baku, in turn, presented its version of the aforesaid telephone conversation. Accordingly, Bayramov reportedly stressed the importance of completing investigations in accordance with its previous commitments following Iran’s drone attacks on Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan exclave from Iranian territory. In general, the need to prevent attacks on civilian targets during the ongoing conflict was emphasized, and support was expressed for a quick cessation of military tensions in the region and the resolution of existing issues only through political and diplomatic means, Baku reported.
  • Iran has denied reports that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had left for Russia for treatment. “Today’s news about the Supreme Leader of the [Islamic] Revolution’s transfer to Russia for treatment is a new form of psychological warfare. Iranian leaders do not need to flee and hide in shelters; their place is on the streets—among the people. The blood of the martyr Khamenei neutralizes the magic of psychological warfare and the flood of lies,” Iranian ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said.
  • Iran has confirmed the death of Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. Larijani was reportedly targeted at his workplace by US and Israeli warplanes, along with his son, one of his deputies, and a group of bodyguards. The funeral for Larijani, his son, deputy, and head of the security department, as well as the leader of the Basij volunteer forces, will take place on Wednesday.
  • New explosions have hit Dubai, and Iran has also attacked Israel again. Two people were killed in an Iranian attack in Ramat Gan, Israel.
