The life of the Armenian nuclear power plant will be extended by at least 10 years; therefore, the operating nuclear power plant will operate even in the medium term, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan stated in an interview with Armlur.am in the National Assembly of Armenia today.

As for the construction of a new nuclear power plant, the minister noted that they have respective proposals not only from the US, but also South Korean, French, Chinese, and Russian proposals.

“We [i.e. Armenia] will choose the proposal that will be most consistent with the state interests of the Republic of Armenia; that is, the best result at the lowest possible price. But we will not choose the lowest price, but the best result that we can get at an equivalent price. In this regard, we believe that energy security and energy independence, in general, are one of the backbones, one of the pillars of the economy. As for investments, naturally there will be new investments and they will have their economic effect, which we also assess positively,” Papoyan added.

And when asked what Armenia offers Azerbaijan and what the latter can buy from Armenia, the economy minister replied: “We have offered. Now there is a specific product, around which businesses of both sides are already negotiating, having discussions with each other.”
