Americans will face difficulties in the coming weeks due to rising fuel prices caused by the war in Iran, U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on March 18.

"Gas prices have gone up, we know that and understand it's hard on people, and we're doing everything we can to keep them lower. I want to say that the President [Donald Trump] noted — and I fully agree — this is a temporary phenomenon," he said at a rally in Michigan.

According to him, the current price increase is not as high as during certain periods under former President Joe Biden's administration, and is linked to the situation in the Middle East.

"We acknowledge that this is a problem. We are working on it, and we promise: when this conflict ends, when this operation is over, we will see energy prices return to reality," the Vice President added.

Vance stressed that the energy dominance program implemented by the administration has made the country more resilient in the face of challenges, but acknowledged that difficult weeks lie ahead for Americans. He also emphasized that the U.S. has no interest in a prolonged conflict with Iran.

"I can guarantee that the U.S. President has no interest in dragging us into long-term protracted conflicts like those of the past. I know the President and understand how he approaches America's national security," the Vice President stated.

He reminded that Trump has consistently opposed Iran acquiring nuclear weapons and is open to diplomacy, but also to military action if necessary — which, according to Vance, led to the decision made about three weeks ago.
