Armenia's National Assembly is discussing the election of a Constitutional Court judge at its session on March 24. President Vahagn Khachaturyan has nominated former deputy of the ruling Civil Contract party and former chairman of the standing parliamentary Committee on State and Legal Affairs, Vladimir Vardanyan, for the vacant position.

Vardanyan worked as chief specialist of the legal advisory service of the Constitutional Court's apparatus from 2003 to 2006. From 2006 to 2013 he headed the Constitutional Court's international treaties department, and from 2013 to 2016 led the corresponding service.

From 2016 to 2018, he served as an adviser at the Constitutional Court, and in 2019, he headed the Constitutional Court's apparatus. That same year, Vardanyan was elected as a member of parliament from the "My Step" bloc, and in 2021 from the Civil Contract party list.
