Colombian President Gustavo Petro has accused former head of state Ivan Duque of involvement in the crash of a military transport aircraft of the country's air force. He made the corresponding statement on his X page.

According to Petro, in 2020, Colombian authorities purchased a 1983-built aircraft from the US. He stated that the previous leadership of the country had failed to ensure the renewal of aviation equipment, opting instead for other expenditures.

The President also noted the need to accelerate the procurement of new equipment and instructed the government to address this issue.

The Hercules C-130 military transport aircraft crashed in the Putumayo department in southern Colombia. There were 117 passengers on board, predominantly military personnel, as well as 11 crew members. At least 66 people did not survive. The crash occurred near Puerto Leguízamo shortly after takeoff. Rescue operations are continuing at the crash site.
