Mutual misunderstanding in relations with the United States is deepening, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated, DW reports.

Germany's security is facing its most concrete threat in the past 75 years, Wadephul added.

He noted that Berlin's relationship with Washington is a source of particular concern. "Our transatlantic partnership is undergoing a profound transformation: I myself am in many ways bewildered, and at times irritated," he said, referring to the policies of the American administration.

"The international order as we have known it for the past 75 years is under pressure — some are trying to destroy it," Wadephul emphasized. He noted that "we are forced to deal simultaneously with two wars directly at our borders and in our neighborhood: Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine on our continent, and the conflict in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region." Diplomacy is needed now more than ever, the minister added.

Despite the growing tensions, Wadephul called on people to "never forget that it was the United States that liberated us from the Nazi regime, helped shape the Federal Republic, and made German reunification possible."
