Following the death of Ali Larijani, the Supreme Leader of Iran's decree appointed Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr as the new head of the Supreme National Security Council, Mehr reports.

Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr was born in 1954 in the city of Fasa, in Fars Province. He is 67 years old. Before the revolution, in his youth, he was engaged in religious and political activity, and during the Islamic Revolution in Iran, he joined revolutionary groups to fight against the Pahlavi regime.

Before the revolution, he was a member of the Mansourun group alongside Mohsen Rezaei — military adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader — and was actively involved in armed struggle against the Pahlavi regime. After the 1979 revolution, Zolqadr was responsible for personnel training within the IRGC.

Following the eight-year war, Zolqadr served as Chief of Staff of the IRGC and also held the position of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for eight years. During Zolqadr's tenure as deputy commander, General Yahya Rahim Safavi served as IRGC Commander-in-Chief.

Zolqadr also served as Deputy Interior Minister and Acting Interior Minister of Iran.
