The Washington administration currently does not consider it necessary to seek authorization from the US Congress to continue its military operation against Iran. This was stated by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a regular press briefing.

According to her, "formal authorization from Congress is not necessary,” as, in the administration’s view, the United States is not at war with Iran, but is instead conducting “major combat operations” against the Islamic Republic. “ At this moment, it's unnecessary,” Leavitt repeated.

Under US law, only Congress has the authority to declare war.
