Concerns related to voter registration have resurfaced ahead of the upcoming elections, Armenian Interior Ministry spokesperson Narek Sargsyan wrote on his Facebook page.

“All reports are carefully verified by the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Community Police,” he stated.

Although improper registrations are generally not found, Sargsyan noted that clarification is sometimes required when a person claims not to know the individuals registered at their address. “This usually means the registration was made many years ago and has simply remained active,” he explained.

He added that there have also been reports of mass registrations, but inspections have shown that they were made with the consent of the property owner.

According to Sargsyan, staff from the relevant Community Police departments also inform citizens about how registration and deregistration processes are carried out, what steps to take to resolve issues, and related matters.
