Pakistan's armed forces have resumed military operations against Afghanistan following a temporary pause, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry announced, Reuters reports.

Last month, the fiercest fighting in years broke out between Pakistan and Afghanistan, resulting in heavy casualties on both sides.

Kabul reported that more than 400 people were killed last week in a Pakistani airstrike on a drug rehabilitation center in the Afghan capital, after which the two countries suspended hostilities.

A pause in fighting was declared for the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr, at the request of Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, according to Islamabad.

"The pause ended at midnight between March 23 and 24," Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Andraabi stated.

He said operations would continue until objectives are achieved and until the Taliban administration in Afghanistan reconsiders "its misguided priority of supporting terrorist infrastructure."

Islamabad accuses the Afghan Taliban of supporting Islamist militants carrying out attacks on Pakistani soil. Kabul denies this, arguing that the militants are Pakistan's internal problem.
