Replacing the Boeing E-3 Sentry long-range radar detection and control aircraft damaged by an Iranian strike could cost the US military more than $700 million, reports The Wall Street Journal.

According to the newspaper, this is about the same price as the Boeing E-7 Wedgetail aircraft, which could replace the E-3s, since the latter are no longer in production.

A former commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), General Glen VanHerck, said that the loss of this E-3 would affect the success of the US Air Force's mission in the region.

On March 28, Air and Space Forces Magazine reported that a US Air Force Boeing E-3 Sentry long-range radar detection and control aircraft was seriously damaged in an Iranian strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on March 27. According to the magazine, the damage could be assessed as serious.
