US intelligence has informed President Donald Trump that, in their assessment, Iran is unlikely to respond to Washington's threats, reports The Washington Post (WP).

According to the newspaper's sources, US intelligence analysts have submitted reports according to which Iran believes that it has the upper hand in the conflict and is therefore unlikely to respond to US threats of force. As the sources clarified, the American leader has already been familiarized with these assessments.

The US president makes new threats against Iran on a regular basis, but at the same time speaks of maintaining contacts between the American side and the authorities of the Islamic republic, WP added.

Iran denies almost all of Trump's allegations, the daily emphasizes.

According to WP’s sources, so far, only an exchange of conflicting demands is taking place between the two parties—and mediated by the Pakistani government.
