U.S. President Donald Trump said in an interview with CBS News that he is “not quite ready” to withdraw American troops as part of efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

“At some point, I will do it, but not yet. Other countries need to step in. Iran is crushed, but they will have to intervene and do their job,” Trump said.

He added that there is no “real threat” in the Strait of Hormuz.

“NATO is terrible, all of them are terrible. They didn’t want to help. If they need oil, let them come and get it. There is no real threat, no significant threat, because the country [Iran] is crushed,” he said.

When asked when the U.S. military operation might conclude, Trump said, “It will happen soon. We’re two weeks ahead of schedule.”

He noted that when the war began, he had said it would last “4 to 6 weeks,” and it is now already the fifth week.
