Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev spoke about the implementation of the so-called “Zangezur corridor,” which is a claim to the territorial integrity of Armenia.

Aliyev said that the motorway there is almost 90 percent ready, and the railway is about 70 percent ready, Azerbaijani media report.

“I hope that this project will be fully implemented in the near future. We know and are very happy that the construction of the Kars-Nakhchivan railway has also begun in Turkey. Thus, the combination and coordinated implementation of these projects will open a new important international corridor. It will become one of the branches of the Middle Corridor. The railway infrastructure we are building will be designed for the transportation of 15 million tons of cargo transportation at the first stage.

But in the future this figure may increase, and, most likely, it will. However, in any case, the opening of a new corridor with a capacity of 15 million tons is of great importance both for our countries and for the wider geography. And here we are again taking a very serious and responsible position. We are securing our own interests and opening new transport routes to the world. That is, this once again shows that the goal of our countries and our organization is peace, cooperation, security, mutual respect, and shared interests," the president of Azerbaijan noted.
