Given the closure of airspace and the current lack of flights, thousands of Iranian citizens have arrived in Armenia to reach their homeland, Iranian ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami stated in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“There were thousands of [Iranian] citizens there, and we helped them. The [Iranian] embassy [in Armenia] provided assistance so that they could reach Iran. And, of course, we also had [Iranian] citizens who had come here [to Armenia] themselves to take advantage of the flights available here and visit other countries, reaching their destinations,” Shirgholami said.

According to the Iranian diplomat, no one had the desire to flee Iran or seek asylum in another country. “Anyone can go to the border between Iran and Armenia and see. I personally visited there recently. Even with all this, it is calm there.

The reason is that the Iranian people love their homeland. And I can even show you videos that many people living outside Iran at that time even cried, expressing their desire to immediately return to their country," the Iranian ambassador to Armenia noted.
