Austria has closed its airspace to US military aircraft. Vienna officials explain this move as a constitutional violation amid the escalation of the Iran war, the Austrian newspaper Heute reports.
According to Michael Bauer, spokesperson for the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defense, the country will not make any exceptions for the Pentagon, and the decision to ban US military aircraft from flying over Austria is final. Bauer added that since the start of hostilities, the Austrian ministry of defense (MoD) has rejected all requests for US military flights over Austria.
The Austrian MoD does not disclose the exact number of such flights denied, but each such request is examined in detail. Bauer emphasized that Austria's aforesaid position remains principled.
