The Kazakh side is currently not negotiating the acquisition of the Russian concession management of Armenia’s railways. This was reported to Interfax-Kazakhstan by the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) OJSC and Kazakhstan Ministry of Transport.

Earlier, Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin also had announced that Russia was not negotiating the transfer of the concession management of Armenia’s railways to Kazakhstan.

In December 2025, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had asked his Russian colleagues to restore Armenia’s railway sections leading to the borders of Turkey and Azerbaijan in a short time—as these sections are necessary for the implementation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) joint transport project of Armenia and the US.

In early March 2026, the Armenian premier had announced that he was in talks with Russia about transferring the concession management of Armenia’s railways to another country, such as Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, or Qatar.

And on March 26, Pashinyan had expressed hope that Russia and Armenia would reach an agreement on transferring this concession management to Kazakh partners, but the Russian side has not yet confirmed this option.
