Iran has stopped negotiations with the United States, informing Pakistan that it will no longer participate in talks on a ceasefire, The New York Times reports, citing three Iranian officials.

Earlier, Reuters reported, citing a senior official, that Iran had set preconditions for establishing lasting peace with the United States.

According to the source, Tehran’s preconditions include an immediate halt to strikes, guarantees that attacks will not be repeated, and compensation for damages.

The official stated that Tehran rejects any ceasefire with the U.S. that would be merely temporary.

He added that a permanent peace agreement should allow Iran to charge fees for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, varying based on the type of vessel, its cargo, and prevailing conditions.
