There is only one option to adopt the constitution: a national referendum. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a press briefing after the Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government on Thursday, and he ruled out the possibility of adopting a new constitution by any other means.

According to Armenia’s current constitution, as the PM noted, some articles can be amended by a vote in parliament (by a two-thirds majority - ed.

“Our team is also discussing whether the parliament should be given the authority to amend certain articles of the constitution,” Pashinyan announced.

According to the Armenian premier, such amendments and additions should be made only by the people.
