Pakistan's prime minister and army chief said Thursday they "appreciated the restraint demonstrated by all sides," before Islamabad is expected to host talks between Iran and the United States, AFP reports.

"The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the de-escalation achieved so far and stressed upon the need for maintaining peace and ceasefire by all parties," the office of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, following his meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Following the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and the US, Israel, which had joined the agreement, said it did not apply to Lebanon, despite Pakistani PM Sharif’s public statement to the contrary.

Iran has called the ongoing strikes on Lebanon a gross violation of the ceasefire agreement at the highest level.
