US Vice President JD Vance played a significant role in organizing the negotiations with Iran in Islamabad, CNN reports on Saturday.

"The US Vice President played a key role in arranging the talks, which are expected to begin within the coming hours in Islamabad," the network cites a senior Pakistani source as saying.

The source believes that reaching a ceasefire agreement could require several days of negotiations, and Pakistani officials are hoping to persuade Vance to remain in the country longer to help achieve that outcome.

The source also told CNN that "Iranians have almost no trust in US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, who led previous rounds of talks with Iran that were interrupted by US strikes on the country."

It was reported earlier that the US delegation has arrived in Islamabad. In addition to Vance, it includes Witkoff and presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner.
